Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Law reform is the process of examining existing laws, and advocating and implementing changes in a legal system, usually with the aim of enhancing justice or efficiency. Intimately related are law reform bodies or law commissions, which are organisations set up to facilitate law reform. Law reform bodies carry out research and recommend ways to simplify and modernize the law. Many law reform bodies are statutory corporations set up by governments, although they are usually independent from government control, providing intellectual independence to accurately reflect and report on how the law should progress. Law reform activities can include preparation and presentation of cases in court in order to change the common law; lobbying of government officials in order to change legislation; and research or writing that helps to establish an empirical basis for other law reform activities. Q. ok, read all about the new immigration reform... make all the illegals legal as long as they pay $5,000 with their oh-so-high paying jobs and the point-system... it can all be discussed somewhere else, my question is, what does this all mean for current LEGAL immigrant workers, waiting to bring their families or with their families and applying for permanent residency? are they going to shorten the waiting period for permanent residency? it only seems fair that if this law is going to legalize people that broke the law (ok ok, it's all good and all, after all, we're all human beings) but it should benefit those who have gone through so much to follow the law! very confused -- please answer detailedly if you can. thanks!! Answered by Crosseyed Kitty - Mon May 21 01:31:11 2007 Suppose Congress enacts a tax reform law and the average federal tax rate drops from 30% to 20%? Q. Researchers investigate the impact of the tax cut and find that the income subject to the tax increases from $800 billion. The theoretical explanation is that workers have increased their work effort in response to the incentive of lower taxes. Is this a movement along the downward-sloping or the upward -sloping portion of the Laffer curve? Asked by styles4u - Sun Mar 11 20:38:34 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is along the downward sloping portion of the Laffer curve. The Laffer curve is 0 at both ends of the tax rate spectrum. This is fairly intuitive. If the tax rate is 0, revenue will be 0. If it is 100%, no one will work, and tax revenue will again be 0. So, it rises and then begins to decline in there. In this example, the tax rate moves from 30%, where revenue is $800 billion, to 20%, which is higher than $800 billion. Thus, the 30% rate is lower revenue than the 20% rate, which means that between 20% and 30%, revenue is declining, meaning it is on the downward sloping portion of the Laffer curve.
